JORE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT (JHSP)

Jore School currently provides education from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and serves more than 1,328 boys and girls per day. Once student graduate from 8th Grade, they have to walk one hour early every morning to the nearest high school and then walk one hour back home each evening. This distance and extra time commitment greatly reduces the number of Jore students who graduate from high school. Of the 80 8th Grade students only approximately 10 students actually graduate from high school. This is primarily because of the one-hour walk to and from the high school plus the lack of enriched learning resources.

JHSP: Expanding and Enriching Jore School
To enable Jore students to attend high school right in their own community, the Duramme – Jore Rotary Club would like to build four new high school classrooms at the Jore School. With 35 high school students per classroom, this would potentially increase the number of high school students to 140 high school students. This would be 35 students for the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

In addition, this project seeks to give a boost to all students at Jore School through access to enriched learning resources. The limitations currently include lack of computer skills as well as access to internet information and supplemental classroom materials, especially in the areas of science and language. The goal of JHSP is to create a learning center where students may learn basic computer skills and gain access to global information via Rachel as well as being able to access English language tutorials.

Building the Future
Jore High School Project is the brainchild of Adane Elilo, a young Rotarian who grew up in the tiny Ethiopian village of Jore. He was educated in the U.S., and came back to make a difference. Starting with the near impossible task of bringing electricity to the community that had been dark all of his life, Adane found a way to bring light and economic development to the village he calls home. He now decided that by focusing on building four classrooms for high school students, he could help bring about economic improvement through education, technology, and micro-finance which would enable graduating high school students to start small businesses and provide freedom and increased opportunities for them and all of the villagers. There will be a wonderful multiplier effect. For every graduating high school student Jore will potentially create two or three time the number of jobs for other villagers.
JORE SCHOOL
JORE SCHOOL currently provides education from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and serves more than 1000 boys and girls per day. The struggle to compete with students from neighboring cities is great. The limitations include lack of computer skills as well as access to internet information and supplemental classroom materials, especially in the areas of science and language. The goal of JWP is to create a STEM center where students may learn basic computer skills and gain access to global information as well as english language tutorials.

Adane Elilo is an amazing young man that we Rotarians in Ethiopia want to help to realize his dreams - dreams that we all share in our dedication to changing the lives of our local students. This four-room high school project will help young women and men to graduate from high school and potentially go on to college or further help their own communities to develop more jobs. This is a wonderful opportunity and with Adane’s leadership it will surely come fruition. Please donate to this cause. Thank you very much.
